    Fathom Review

Meeting recorder, transcript, and summary tool with a genuinely useful free tier — the default for founders and small GTM teams. RevenueHoop uses Fathom internally for every client and prospect call.

    Fathom at a glance

Founders running sales solo before hiring a full team
Small GTM teams (1-15 reps) that need call recording without an enterprise contract
Consultants and agencies (like us) recording client and prospect calls
Anyone who needs high-quality searchable transcripts across Zoom, Meet, and Teams
    01

    The RevenueHoop take on Fathom

Fathom is the tool that quietly killed the "we need Gong for call recording" argument at Series A. The free tier is genuinely usable, the transcripts are as good as anything in the enterprise category, and the CRM sync is clean enough that founders and small teams get 80% of Gong's value at 0-5% of the cost.

    Best for

    • Founders running sales solo before hiring a full team
    • Small GTM teams (1-15 reps) that need call recording without an enterprise contract
    • Consultants and agencies (like us) recording client and prospect calls
    • Anyone who needs high-quality searchable transcripts across Zoom, Meet, and Teams
    • Teams where "call review" is aspirational, not a formal program yet
    03

    When to use it

Use Fathom for every founder, small team, and consultancy that needs call recording without a Gong-scale investment. It's the correct choice when your call-review discipline is informal, when the value of the tool is "I can search a transcript later" rather than "we have a coaching program," and when free-tier limits are a feature, not a bug.

Fathom also earns its place as the recording layer for any consulting or advisory engagement where the client relationship justifies the transcript, but a paid enterprise tool would be overkill.

    04

    When NOT to use it

Skip Fathom (upgrade to Gong or Chorus) when your team is 20+ AEs with a formalized enablement program, when forecast accuracy is a board-level metric, or when you need call-level analytics feeding into revenue reporting.

Fathom is the founder tool; graduate when the org has actually formalized the coaching and analytics functions.

    05

    Pros and cons

    Pros

    • Free tier is genuinely useful — unlike most "free" GTM tools
    • Transcript quality rivals enterprise-tier tools
    • Native Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams support
    • HubSpot and Salesforce CRM sync works cleanly
    • MCP integration for AI workflows (our stack uses it heavily)

    Cons

    • Not designed for formal coaching programs or deal analytics
    • Enterprise features (permissions, retention, compliance) shallow
    • Limited multi-user admin controls
    • Not competitive with Gong on forecast intelligence
    • Search is good but not as sophisticated as Chorus/Gong

    The RevenueHoop opinion

Fathom is the tool we use internally, recommend to nearly every founder, and consider one of the great "free tier that's actually free" wins in modern GTM. The category has become genuinely competitive since 2024 — Granola, Fathom, and Gong are all excellent for different stages. But for founder-led sales through Series A, Fathom is the correct starting point ninety-plus percent of the time.
